ANPGA & ANDRA Angsi Complex

ANPGA Platform. Picture taken just after DB30 Complete all Heavylift works.

Installation of ANPG-A platform was my first assignment on Offshore Facilities Installation. Here is an article i found about the ANGSI Complex :

The first commercial hydrocarbons from the Angsi field were produced in December 2001 via the Angsi complex, which comprises a central processing platform bridge-linked to a wellhead platform. Production rates are expected to climb from an initial 15,000b/d of oil and 60mmcfd of gas to peak volumes of 65,000b/d and 450mmcfd.

Developed jointly by 50:50 co-venturers PCSB (operator) and EMEPMI, Angsi is located 160km offshore Terengganu in a water depth of 69m. The Angsi field is the first to be developed under the new Gas Production Sharing Contract, signed in November 1998.

Over 300km of pipelines were installed as part of the development of the Angsi Complex, including connections to production facilities on platforms Guntong D, Seligi A and Tapis and a new 166km pipeline to shore.

The development of Angsi is a key element in meeting Malaysia’s burgeoning energy needs in the coming decades, with 160 million barrels of oil and 1.4 tcf of gas expected to be produced from the field.

An additional Angsi development phase is currently under evaluation to further maximise resource recovery.

The completed project facilities will be operated by PCSB, except for the host tie-ins at Guntong-D (GuD), Irong Barat-A (IBA), Seligi-A (SeA) and the Onshore Slugcatcher (OSC) which will be operated by EMEPMI.

Consisting of a central processing platform (ANPG-A), a drilling/riser platform (ANDR-A) and a 100m interconnecting bridge, the complex will process oil and gas from Angsi field satellites, such as the Angsi-B drilling and production platform (ANDP-B), and future nearby platforms.

The Angsi complex will provide fully integrated support for drilling up to 52 wells, with facilities including two gas compression trains, gas lift and dehydration, power generation, water injection, gas sales, produced water handling and a 16MW power generation plant.

The ANPG-A topsides are the largest yet built in Malaysia with a total weight of 12,500t, configured with five modules sitting on a two-piece module support frame. Space is allocated for a future compression module, and accommodation for 100 personnel is available. Constructed by Sime SembCorp Engineering (SSE) in the southern state of Johor, the topsides are supported by an eight-legged steel piled substructure.

ANDR-A, the largest drilling/riser platform built in Malaysia to date, constructed by Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering (MSE) in Pasir Gudang, Johor is complemented with a satellite platform, ANDP-B, with a capacity of 32 additional production wells, located 6km to the west.

Dehydrated, compressed gas from the Angsi complex will be transported via pipeline to the Onshore Slug Catcher.

Combined crude and condensate will be exported to Terengganu crude oil terminal via the Irong Barat-Tapis pipeline system. The complex will also serve as the processing centre for nearby platforms as well as a hub for gas from Guntong, Seligi, Besar and other southern gas fields.

The Angsi development includes the Southern Gas Pipeline system, the main infrastructure of Malaysia’s southern gas hub, which provides critical gas sales and security of supply to the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline network, while helping Malaysia to continue as a major regional gas exporter.

    Another News About ANGSI Field.

Petronas completes first phase of Malaysian Angsi field

05-03-01 Malaysian national oil company Petronas has announced completion of the first phase of development of Angsi field off Malaysia in the South China Sea. First gas from Angsi is expected in the first quarter 2002. The development is a joint venture of Petronas subsidiary Petronas Carigali and Esso Production Malaysia.
The phase, also known as the Southern Gas Pipeline System, included design, fabrication, and installation of a drilling and riser platform (dubbed AnDR-A), modifications to the Guntong D platform — a satellite to the producing Guntong field — and modifications to the Jerneh onshore slug-catcher in Kertih, Terengganu.
That work included installation by the two partners of 222 km of interconnecting 32-in. gas pipeline from Guntong D platform to the AnDR-A and on to the onshore facility. Gas from Guntong D platform began flowing to AnDR-A Feb. 2. The current flow rate is 80 mm cfpd-100 mm cfpd.
The pipeline system is designed to handle a peak rate of 1.2 bn cfpd to accommodategas from various fields currently being developed and those to be developed in the future. This includes the Angsi field.
The work was completed well within its projected schedule of first quarter 2001 at a 27 % saving from the original cost estimate. To save money, the partners practiced initiatives like joint procurement and contracting, simplification of processes and facilities, and other measures. About 65 % of the work in this phase was undertaken by local contractors.

Phase II of the project, which consists of design, fabrication, and installation of two additional platforms-a central processing platform (AnPG-A) for production of crude oil and natural gas and a drilling platform (AnDP-B)-has already started. The two platforms, being built at Pasir Gudang and Kuching respectively, will be installed by the third quarter, together with a 48 km crude export pipeline to the existing Tapis pump platform. A Phase III development plan is in the pipeline following a recent discovery of additional petroleum reserves at the Angsi field.

Hi there, anyone here knew about the current stage of Angsi’s oil recovery method? Has PETRONAS implement the water flooding process to the reservoirs?

  5. kobbera Says:

Angsi now produce more than 80,000 barrels per day and record 121,000 barrels per day in 2005 and for Gas production more than 300 mmscf. Highest production in Malaysia. We got water injection system. First project in south east asia for CEOR ( Chemical Enhancement Oil Recovery ). – operation angsi-

  6. pitihkawe Says:

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is one of the PETRONAS initiatives to improve ultimate oil recovery from Malaysian oil fields. Chemical EOR (CEOR) was identified as one of the EOR process that has good potential for the field implementation.

  7. pitihkawe Says:

The Angsi Chemical EOR pilot project entails the injection of Alkaline-Surfactant (AS) chemical into Angsi I-68 reservoir to reduce water flood residual oil saturation. This technology combines the interfacial tension (IFT) reduction effect of added surfactants and alkalis on the water-oil interface.

AnDP-D is currently under construction at Teluk Ramunia

  9. Razmahwata Mohd. Razalli Says:

Salam. As part of the CEOR, what topside modifications needed to be made? Is the chemical injected into the WI system downstream of the WI plant? Do you need to upgrade WI flowlines, or are corrosion inhibitors used?

  10. pitihkawe Says:

This EOR was done in Angsi B not much modification was done our equipment consist of the following. One RO unit with capacity of 25 bbl/hr that meet our water specification. 2 unit of 280 bbl Storage tank,1 unit of 150 bbl storage tank, 2 unit of 50 bbl Batch Mixer, low pressure manifold for gathering all the tanks an RO unit for fluid transfer, circulation and blending.
A Schlumberger High Pressure pumps connected to the batch mixer via a low pressure manifold provide a continuous fluid injection capability for the duration of the testing. Using a high pressure injection system, the pumps will be connected to the injection manifold.
The pumping pressure will not exceed 1,400 psi.
