PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA OPENS PETRONAS OFFICE IN BAHRAIN

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsThe Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, today officiated the opening of the Bahrain office of PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national petroleum corporation.

The event, held at the office premises on Level 24 of the National Bank of Bahrain Tower in Manama was also attended by many senior government officials of Bahrain including His Excellency Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the Minister of Oil as well as several Malaysian Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers. Also present was PETRONAS President and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Hassan Marican.

The setting up of the PETRONAS office in Bahrain follows the signing of two Exploration and Production Agreements between PETRONAS and Bahrain’s Ministry of Oil for offshore blocks IV and VI, witnessed by Dato’ Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Bahrain Prime Minister His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa in Putrajaya, Malaysia, last November. PETRONAS SECURES TWO RECONNAISSANCE CONTRACTS IN MOROCCO

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS, through subsidiary PETRONAS Carigali Overseas Sdn Bhd, yesterday entered into two Reconnaissance Contracts with the Office National de Recherches et d’Explorations Pétrolières (ONAREP), the national oil company of Morocco, for an onshore area in the Missour Basin and the offshore Rabat Sale Haute Mer Area. The contracts will lead to the granting of Reconnaisance Licences by the Morrocan Ministry in charge of Energy.

The contracts were signed in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, by Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Hassan Marican, the President and Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS on behalf of PETRONAS Carigali, while ONAREP was represented by its General Director Madame Amina Benkhadra. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Morocco.

Under the terms of the Contracts, PETRONAS Carigali will carry out field work and associated geological and geophysical works in the Missour and Rabat Sale Haute Mer areas. (more…)

MLNG TIGA SIGNS SALE AND PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH JAPAN PETROLEUM EXPLORATION CO LTD

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsMalaysia LNG Tiga Sdn Bhd (MLNG Tiga) today signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Japan Petroleum Exploration Co Ltd (JAPEX) to supply up to 480,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year to the latter for 20 years beginning from 2003. The contract is valued at about US$1.6 billion.

The SPA firmed up the Confirmation of Intent signed by the two parties in September 1997. Under the terms of the SPA, the LNG will be supplied from Bintulu LNG Complex, Sarawak, and will be delivered to JAPEX by LNG tankers owned by Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Bhd (MISC), a subsidiary of PETRONAS. The first delivery is scheduled to be in early 2003. The LNG will be transported from Malaysia’s LNG loading terminal at Bintulu to the LNG receiving terminal at Seiro-machi, Kitakanbara-gun, in the Niigata Prefecture in Japan. (more…)
