PETRONAS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES LARGEST EVER BOND ISSUE BY AN ASIAN CORPORATION
PETRONAS, through wholly-owned subsidiary PETRONAS Capital Limited, has successfully raised US$2.675 billion equivalent from its latest global bond issue — the largest corporate bond issue to have ever been concluded by an Asian corporation in the international debt capital market.
In its return to the market since 1999, PETRONAS launched its first global multi-currency debt offering in New York on Monday, 13 May 2002 with an original size of US$1 billion 10-year tranche and Euro 500 million 7-year tranche. International fixed income investors responded overwhelmingly towards the issue and placed orders amounting to around US$7 billion equivalent. (more…)

The issue was upsized to US$1.3 billion for the 10-year tranche and the Euro 7-year tranche to Euro 750 million. A US$700 million 20-year tranche was also introduced as a result of the strong demand. (more…)
PRIME MINISTER OPENS PETRONAS PETROLEUM INDUSTRY COMPLEX IN KERTIH
The Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad today officially opened the PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex (PPIC) in Kertih. The official opening ceremony of the complex was also attended by several Federal Government Ministers, the Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and other State officials, PETRONAS Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Azizan Zainul Abidin, PETRONAS President & Chief Executive Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Hassan Marican and senior officials of PETRONAS’ joint-venture partners. The PPIC, comprising a total of 41 installations and supporting plants, has been conceptualised and developed over the past 20 years by PETRONAS — with the support from its joint venture partners — as an integrated world-class complex housing many world-scale petroleum-based manufacturing facilities. These include an oil refinery with a condensate splitter, six gas processing plants, 11 gas-based petrochemical plants, five ancillary facilites, six common support facilities and 11 other facilities catering to the needs of the complex, its employees and their families and the surrounding community. All these plants and facilities, located on about 4,000 hectares of land, constitute a truly unique model of petroleum industry integration not available anywhere else in the world. (more…)
PETRONAS AND PHILIPPINE NATIONAL OIL COMPANY TO JOINTLY PROMOTE NGV IN THE PHILIPPINES
PETRONAS‘ subsidiary, PETRONAS NGV Sdn Bhd (PNGV), today signed a three-year Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to introduce the natural gas-powered vehicles, the Enviro 2000, in the Philippines as well as to jointly promote the use of natural gas for vehicle (NGV) in that country.
Under the MoU, PNGV and PNOC will pool their resources and expertise to embark on a six-month field demonstration in Manila involving six units of the Enviro 2000. The two parties will also undertake a joint feasibility study on the development of other NGV-related businesses in the Philippines. These would include areas like NGV refuelling station construction and operation, promotion and marketing of NGV and production of bi-fuel and monofuel NGV vehicles in the Philippines. The six units will be one of the major highlights during the Philippines’ Independence Day celebrations on 12 June 2002.
The field demonstration will also serve as part of PETRONAS’ overall plans to promote and create market awareness of NGV and Enviro 2000 outside Malaysia, in line with its continuous efforts to increase the usage of the cleaner, cheaper and environment-friendly alternative fuel. (more…)
