INCIDENTS AT OFFSHORE PLATFORMS

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS would like to confirm that two separate incidents involving the release of oil and gas have happened at two platforms offshore Peninsular Malaysia operated by ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (EMEPMI).In the first incident, about 60 barrels of crude oil was spilled on 20 March due to what is believed to be a leak in the pipeline at the Seligi A platform, located approximately 250km offshore. The oil has formed a sheen around the platform and is being contained by the operator while a repair and clean-up operation is carried out. EMEPMI has temporarily shut the operations at the platform pending investigation.

The second incident occurred today at the Jerneh platform about 230km offshore, where a certain volume of gas has been released from a well. As a safety precaution, the operator has temporarily shut the operations at the platform pending full investigation. Non-essential platform crew has also been evacuated while a number of personnel remain on board to resolve the problem. (more…)

PETRONAS ACTIVATES APPROPRIATE MEASURES, SETS UP INFORMATION HOTLINE TO MONITOR SAFETY OF ITS STAFF & STUDENTS

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsIn view of the latest development in Iraq and in the Middle East, PETRONAS has activated appropriate measures to address the possible implications to its employees, operations and sponsored students overseas. PETRONAS is pleased to inform that all of its employees worldwide are accounted for and are safe and all PETRONAS operations have not been disrupted by the development.

PETRONAS is also monitoring the situation of its sponsored scholars overseas and would like to assure parents that the sudents are safe and are constantly in contact with their respective Student Advisors. PETRONAS has a Student Advisor each in Australia, United States and United Kingdom, and each of them is also in close contact with Malaysia’s diplomatic missions in these countries.

PETRONAS is also pleased to announce that it has set up a 24-hour hotline to allow immediate families of its employees and sponsored students to obtain information on their loved ones. (more…)

PETRONAS LAUNCHES MOTORSPORTS TECHNICAL CENTRE AND MUSEUM

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS today launched its Motorsports Technical Centre and Motorsports Museum in its efforts to further develop, expand and add value to all technological expertise and experiences gained through its involvement in various motorsports activities.The launch of the PETRONAS Motorsports Technical Centre and PETRONAS Motorsports Museum, located within the premises of PETRONAS Research & Scientific Services Centre in Bangi, Selangor, was officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Dato’ Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. Also present were PETRONAS Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Azizan Zainul Abidin and PETRONAS President & CEO Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Hassan Marican.

The PETRONAS Motorsports Technical Centre will provide an avenue to cultivate and nurture the development of local expertise and know-how especially in automotive engineering and related technologies, and create an environment to promote learning and innovative culture among Malaysians. Nick-named “Block K”, the centre will also function as the technological nerve centre for automotive engineering, and act as the local technology arm for Sauber PETRONAS Engineering AG, the Switzerland-based Sauber-PETRONAS automotive engineering outfit. In the long-term, the centre is expected to generate returns for PETRONAS through the commercialisation of its research and development (R&D) findings as well as through the provision of consultancy services.
