OPTIMAL RESUMES PLANT OPERATIONS
The OPTIMAL Group of Companies (OPTIMAL) is pleased to announce that its petrochemical complex in Kertih, Malaysia, has resumed operations on Sunday, 10 October, after a brief shutdown due to a severe storm that hit the site on Thursday, 7 October. Strong winds had damaged the roof of the control building causing rainwater to fall on the Distributed Control System and control system consoles, affecting the Olefins and Derivatives plants.
The site operations team in Kertih swiftly undertook repair works. Total cost of the damage however is yet to be determined at this juncture. (more…)

Start-up is currently progressing smoothly at the Olefins plant whilst the Ethylene plant, the Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol and the Derivatives unit will commence operations progressively by end of this week. OPTIMAL expects to resume supply of its products to the affected customers soon. (more…)
OPTIMAL PLANT CONTROL ROOMS DAMAGED BY STORM
We regret to report that part of the roof of two control rooms of the Optimal Complex within the PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex in Kertih, Terengganu has been damaged by an exceptionally heavy storm last night.
The incident which occurred at about 7.30pm resulted in rain water soaking the Distributed Control System (DCS) in both of the control rooms, requiring the plants within the Optimal Complex to be shut down for safety reasons. (more…)
OPTIMAL PLANT CONTROL ROOMS DAMAGED BY STORM
We regret to report that part of the roof of two control rooms of the Optimal Complex within the PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex in Kertih, Terengganu has been damaged by an exceptionally heavy storm last night.The incident which occurred at about 7.30pm resulted in rain water soaking the Distributed Control System (DCS) in both of the control rooms, requiring the plants within the Optimal Complex to be shut down for safety reasons.
The plants — including an ethylene plant, an ethylene oxide / ethylene glycol plant and a multi-unit derivatives plant — however were not damaged by the storm and no casualty was reported. The incident did not affect the operations of other plants within the PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex. (more…)
