PETRONAS CARIGALI INSTALLS THE WORLD’S FIRST STRATAPAC SAND CONTROL TOOL OFFSHORE SARAWAK

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the wholly owned exploration and production arm of PETRONAS, has successfully installed the first Stratapac Separation Tool in its TK-54L well in Tukau Field, offshore Miri, Sarawak.The Stratapac Separation Tool, believed to be the first of such installation in the world, was completely installed on 27 February 2005 and has resulted the well production to increase by approximately 400 per cent.

The tool is designed to be set inside the well tubing for sand control purposes. By positioning it in the middle producing zone (as shown in the attached right diagram), it can separate the sand from oil in the reservoir, thus preventing the sand to be produced together when oil is flowed to the surface. In this manner, the tool keeps the unconsolidated sand from collapsing and filling up the tubing that may then block the oil from flowing to the surface. A conventional sand control tool is normally installed at the end of the production tubing (as shown in the left diagram). (more…)

PETRONAS CARIGALI MAKES MALAYSIA’S FIRST BASEMENT OIL DISCOVERY

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the upstream exploration and production arm of PETRONAS, has discovered oil in the basement of an exploration well drilled within the Southern Malay Basin offshore Terengganu, the first of such discovery in Malaysia.The Anding Utara-1 exploration well and its sidetrack were drilled recently and both tested oil and gas in the basement, the bottom layer of a hydrocarbon prospect usually devoid of any potential.

The Anding Utara-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 2,610 metres, including 120 metres of vertical depth into the basement. The sidetrack well reached a total depth of 2,740 metres, including 250 metres of penetration into the basement. Anding Utara is located within the Malong-Sotong-Anding Production Sub-block of Block PM12. (more…)

PETRONAS-SHELL JOINT VENTURE MAKES FOURTH SUCCESSIVE DISCOVERY

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsCS Mutiara Petroleum Sdn Bhd, a 50:50 joint venture company between PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell Exploration and Production Malaysia B.V., has made another gas discovery in Block PM301, off the northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia.Drilling operations on Bumi South-1 well commenced on 25 February 2005. The exploration well, located in a water depth of 55 metres was drilled to a total depth of 1650 metres and encountered multiple gas zones. Further technical evaluation is required to determine the reserves.

Bumi South-1 is the fourth discovery in Block PM301, following the recent exploration successes of Bunga Kamelia, Bunga Zetung and Bunga Anggerik. The latest discovery is located about 25 kilometres northwest of the Bunga Anggerik gas field discovered in November 2004. (more…)
