Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS today signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) with national carmaker Proton Holdings Berhad to jointly explore the possibility of the use of PETRONAS E01 engine technology for the carmaker’s vehicle line-up.

Under the MOI, PETRONAS and Proton will also look at the possibility of developing environment-friendly NGV fuel systems for Proton. (more…)

MALAYSIA LNG TO SUPPLY LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS TO SHIKOKU ELECTRIC

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsMalaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has signed a Confirmation of Intent (COI) with Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc (Shikoku Electric) to supply up to 420,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 15 years beginning 2010, with an option to extend for another five years. Shikoku Electric is a new addition to MLNG’s list of Japanese customers.

The LNG will be supplied to Shikoku Electric from the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. The LNG will be transported from Bintulu to Shikoku Electric’s new receiving terminal in Sakaide, Japan on ex-ship basis by LNG tankers owned and operated by MISC Bhd., a subsidiary of PETRONAS. The receiving terminal, currently under construction and due for completion in 2010, is owned by Sakaide LNG Co., Inc., a joint venture between Shikoku Electric, Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and Shikoku Gas Co., Ltd. PETRONAS AWARDS DEEPWATER BLOCK P TO MURPHY AND PETRONAS CARIGALI

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsPETRONAS today awarded a Production Sharing Contract to Murphy Sabah Oil Co., Ltd and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd for the ultra-deepwater Block P, a newly re-demarcated exploration area offshore Sabah.Block P was a part of the Block K acreage awarded to Murphy and PETRONAS Carigali in 1999, which had come to the end of its seven-year exploration period and was partially relinquished back to PETRONAS. About 24 per cent of the original Block K has been retained under the 1999 PSC, and Murphy and PETRONAS Carigali have been granted a five-year extension to continue its exploration programme in this area. Twenty-five per cent of the Block has been re-demarcated as Block P under a new PSC and awarded to Murphy and PETRONAS Carigali today. The remaining area of Block K has been re-demarcated into two other new blocks.

Block P, with an area of about 4,246 square kilometers, is situated approximately 200 kilometres north of Labuan Island and lies in water depths ranging from 1,300 metres to 2,500 metres. More than 80 per cent of the Block is located in water depth of more than 1,500 metres. (more…)

Shikoku Electric is the eighth largest power company in Japan, supplying electricity to more than four million people in Shikoku Island. For the first time beginning 2010 this sole supplier of electricity to the island will use LNG as fuel in its power plants.
