MALAYSIA LNG TO SUPPLY LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS TO CHUBU ELECTRIC
Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, today signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc., (Chubu Electric) to supply up to 540,000 metric tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 20 years beginning 2011.
The LNG will be supplied to Chubu Electric from the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. The LNG will be transported from Bintulu to Chubu Electric’s receiving terminals in Chita, Yokkaichi and Kawagoe, Japan on ex-ship basis by LNG tankers owned and operated by MISC Bhd., a subsidiary of PETRONAS. Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has signed a Confirmation of Intent (COI) with Osaka Gas Co. Ltd (Osaka Gas) to supply up to 920,000 metric tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 15 years beginning April 2009, with an option to extend for a maximum of five years.The LNG will be supplied to Osaka Gas from the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. The LNG will be transported from Bintulu to Osaka Gas’ receiving terminals in Senboku, Osaka Prefecture and Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture on ex-ship basis by LNG tankers owned and operated by MISC Bhd., a subsidiary of PETRONAS.
The long term relationship with Osaka Gas, the second largest gas company in Japan, started in 1994 when MLNG signed a 20-year supply contract with a consortium of Japanese companies of which Osaka Gas is a member. In 2002, the consortium signed a contract with MLNG Tiga, another PETRONAS subsidiary, for the supply of LNG for a period of 20 years from 2004. (more…)

Chubu Electric is the third largest power company in Japan, supplying electricity to about 16 million people in five prefectures in central Japan. Chubu Electric is also the second largest importer of LNG in Japan. (more…)

PETRONAS-SHELL JOINT VENTURE STRIKES GAS AGAIN
CS Mutiara Petroleum Sdn Bhd (CS Mutiara), a 50:50 joint venture company between PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell Exploration and Production Malaysia BV has made another gas discovery in Block PM302 off the northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia.The Bunga Dahlia Channel-1 exploration well, located in a water depth of 67 metres, was spudded on 18 February 2006. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,260 metres and encountered multiple gas zones. Further technical evaluation is required to determine the volumes of the discovery.
With this latest discovery in Block PM302, CS Mutiara has recorded six consecutive exploration successes including Bunga Kamelia, Bunga Zetung, Bunga Anggerik, Bumi South and Bunga Kesumba in the adjoining Block PM301. The company is currently embarking on technical studies to assess the development options for the gas discoveries in both blocks. (more…)
