Field Engineer & what they do !

Noorhisham the Offshore Construction Superintendent OCS (The one who wearing ‘big’ Red Wing Coverall) Bache Minggu the Rigger Leaderman (The one in the middle holding ‘keropok’ with his left hand) & the one and only Nawawi, Snr. Field Engineer No. 1 (The one with a smile and green helmet… ops.. and also with lift chart, calculator, barge set-up pattern, walkie talkie, measuring tape, and white pagoda t-shirt inside his coverall) dont forget, me… the one who take this Picture.
Ok lets talk more about this Nawawi position. Below is his roles and responsibilities:
- Field Engineer Roles & Responsibilities:
- Directly responsible to the Construction Superintendent (OCS- in this case Mr. Noohisham) on all engineering, planning, commissioning, materials and all other technical services essential to support the construction activities at the offshore site.
- The reason why FE always bring calculator along.
- He is to ensure (in this case, Nawawi & me) that the details included in the installation procedures are fully understood and properly applied by the Construction personnel and that all project preparation is in order.
- Thats why Mr Nawawi always holding the lift cart and in his left leg pocket there is a full A6 Size of installation procedure. You wont see in in the picture.
- He is to work close liaison with the CSR and the construction Superintendent to advise on the tecnical aspect related to the project.
- He coordinates and requests from the construction superintendent or the Barge Foreman any resources required by his subordinates.
- This is where the walkie talkie is putting in action.
- He shall review project planning with a view to improve on the completion date, if possible during implementation. He shall at all times know the current progress of the project with respect to planning. He should be able to give details of why a project is ahead/behind schedule at all times. -
- Field engineer will only able to answer this question around 0.5 hrs after wake-up from his sleep!!!

- Field Engineer Qualification & Requirement
- Must have recognized degree in appropriate engineering discipline.
- He must have at least 5 years experience in his profession of which at least 3 years in offshore oil & gas industry including experience in major offshore projects.
Ok… thats all for field engineer section. I myself is a field engineer… so i’m not in the mood of writing about the field engineer’s ’sh*t’ offshore… he he he he….
