Oil & Gas Construction Diver & What They ‘Do’ Offshore

This is what an old jacket (Jacket is a Oil Platform Pillar) looks like underwater. Diver is one of the highest paid offshore employee. Below are list of activities involving divers during Offshore Pipeline & Platform Installation :

  • Diving Activities during Pipeline Installation
    • Stinger Installation
    • Stinger check every 6 hours
    • Attaching davit line to chocker slings for pipeline sidewalk & Pick-Up during riser installation.
    • Diver measurement for riser installation (Metrology)
    • Install Riser Clamps
    • Closing & Tighten up riser clamps
    • Installation of spools, i.e. Metrology for spools fabrications, align & Tighten up subsea flanges.
    • Installation of subsea installation aids, i.e. flange protector.
  • Diving Activities during Fixed Offshore Installation
    • Disconnect lifting slings (This is not common, its only applicable where cases the lifting slings + Shackles are submerge)
    • Removal of Rigging Platform.
    • Grouting works
    • Removal of netguard (Drilling equipment)
    • Installation of conductor bullet.
    • Subsea Levelling (Not Common)

    There are different kind of Diver Metrology Jig and procedures of getting the measurement also different depend on the work requirement, distance, visibility, jig design and so on… But one of the rule of thumb for diver measurement is always have a reference point. It is important to check your measurement accuracy.

    No,I donot have any expreince about metrology,but I like Learn.
    I joined to 4 pipe line project,as a diver&during that had stinger inspection,tuch down point cheack,install PLEM,recovery wet buckle,lunching 2 jacket…,
