Salvo’s Advanced Combustion Technologies in Industrial Furnaces Masterclass has been organized to improve the understanding of combustion and pollutant formation processes. Combustion has been crucial for the modern industrial development since about two centuries. In spite of big steps forward in fundamental understanding of the last 5-6 decades, combustion technology has not advanced that much and has privileged low investment costs in a time of cheap energy from abundant fossil fuels.

Discussions will centre on how fuel properties, operating conditions, and furnace design impact environmental and operational performance such as NOx emissions and fouling and slagging.

Combustion research generates the fundamental physical and chemical knowledge to reduce emissions and increase efficiency. Companies must actively develop and deploy processes and tools that:

• Increase their knowledge of combustion;
• Substantially reduce the release of greenhouse gases; and
• Improve the efficiency of combustion-based power generation.
• Emphasize on energy saving.

Leading the workshop session is professional engineer with over 40 years experience in the field of combustion technologies in energy intensive industries such as power generation, steelmaking and heat treatment of ferrous and non ferrous metals. He has matured first hand know-how on several pilot plants at semi-industrial scale, including trouble-shooting on full scale furnaces and plants, in the framework of Research & Technical Development (R&TD organizations).
