It has been brought to PETRONAS’ attention once again that a syndicate, believed to be based in Indonesia, is still running an SMS scam using PETRONAS’ name to con members of the public.Cellular phone users have been receiving a SMS that reads: “Pengumuman dari PETRONAS MAS. TAHNIAH! SimCard anda bertuah memenangi undian wang RM14,000. Sila hubungi telefon 006285880214502. Terima Kasih.”
(“Announcement from PETRONAS MAS. CONGRATULATIONS! Your SIMCard has won a lucky draw of RM14,000. Please call 006285880214502. Thank you.”)
PETRONAS is made to understand that despite our numerous previous announcements on this matter, members of the public still fall prey to the scam.
PETRONAS wishes to clarify once again that it has never organised such a contest and appeals to members of the public not to be easily misled by the syndicate.
PETRONAS has lodged another police report on this matter.

I have also received 3 similar SMS regarding this spam. First impression for me to wonder how did Petronas managed to get hold of my mobile number where I don’t have any communication with them at all.
The SMS Message reads :
Congratulation! Sim Card anda telah berjaya memenangi Cabutan bertuah RM25,000.00 Dari Petronas. Sila call telefon: 0128650344. Terima kasih.
Hope everyone is aware of this spam.

i recieved an SMS quote:
“Congratulation!!!
Your SIM card get SGD$7000 from PETRONAS. For more information, please call PETRONAS CENTRE: +6281339662297. http://www.petronas.com
When i called up the person, he answered the phone and to say that this lucky draw was for the purpose of S’pore National Day celebration and PETRONAS has chosen only 20 lucky persons for draw and said it was suppose to be RM$20000 and because of exchange rate, it boiled down to SGD$7000.
It also claimed that any UOB from Singapore account holder will do in order to claim the price.

He is an Indonesian and he speaks lousy English
May ALLAH punished him for all his sins and lies and also for everybody sake.

Good day. It is really unfortunate such scam sms still exist to date and well, today i received the same sms:
“Congratulation !!! Your Simcard get $7000 from PETRONAS. For more information, please call PETRONAS centre +6281230245634″
Wonder based on what reference can it convinced people that they entered any contest with Petronas, moreoever, for me example, a singaporean, who doesn’t pump any petronas gas.
Nevertheless, such scam group should be eliminated and i hope Petronas management is also helping and puting in effort to clear this hoax.
Please keep all your family members and friends, including peers and colleagues, informed of such hoax to prevent any from falling into their prey.

Received this morning. Fortunately, I am IT-literate enough to check out on the NET for such scams.
Msg says:
Congratulations! Sim-Card anda telah bertuah memenangi hadiah utama wang tunai RM30,000 dr “PETRONAS”.
Sila/call/tel: 012 8631506. Terima Kasih.
For one things I’ve never heard of a Sim-card competition and what has Petronas got to do with telecommunications.
Anyone, watch out people! Get rich quick are scams most times.
