    Hi,

Browse thru this web, interesting yet informative. It seemed most of the offshore job opportunities require at least 2-3 years experience in oil n gas comp. Urm, I wonder if you do have any info or contacts for oil and gas power and energy plant vacancies. I’ve tried myself searching for onshore opportunities in oil and gas, but none avail. It would be aprreciated if you willing to help.

I wonder if any of those companies would be interest in fresh graduate candidates who had their higher degree of education level for the post (like.. Master or Doctorate degree…?).

    Thanks!

My Boss want me to do the lifting procedure & Calculation for Single Buoy Mooring Subsea hose using crane on the barge. On the calculation part i don’t have an idea how to start..If u have an experience to do the calculation during the lifting the subsea hose..can u share u knowledge with me for my info.

  12. on 4th, December

These are the minimum steps that you should follow.

    1. Identify weather your load considered as Heavy Load. (Refer to your client specifications)
    2. If it is considered Heavy Load. then again follow your client specification on heavy lifting, which method they are using. common method are, 1 meter CG movement, 1 sling slack, 25/75 or combination of these three requirement.
    3. Check your crane barge capacity and dont forget about dynamic loading due to barge movement.
    4. Be as safe as you can. Go for conservative assumption.
    5. Minimum items to check, Sling MBL against Loads, Shackle MBL against load, Padeye checks, Slings angle, Sling Lengths to accommodate your working water depth.
    6. Let 3rd party checks & verify your calculations to ensure you are covered by insurance (If it is a heavy lift)
    7. Again, refer to the Client Specifications & Dont forget to refer to to the contract document also.
    8. There is quite a few more items to be checked & i believe your senior engineer got it all in hands.
    9. Please ensure your calculations are correct to ensure the offshore operations are safe. last two years there is an incident (Fatality) somewhere in Thailand related to Heavy Lift.

    BE SAFE MY FRIEND!

    Hi there Sulaiman,

In your opinion and in the wake of the deep water exploration ..

Will the 200 pax accomodation barge will be a good investment for a company to be in or it should be more pax than that

    Thanks.

  16. on 6th, January

    Hi Sam,

To invest in building/buying accommodation barge, you must specifically study the :

    1. Nature of targeted works
    2. Potential field condition, i.e. waterdepth
    3. etc…

I cannot straightly answer just by giving you the capacity of the accommodation barge.

    bro,
Salam, I’m shafiq, maintenance/project engineer (but in downstream side, not like u guys..hehhe).I’m looking for a contractor for Drydocking+ Towing+ Changeout of SBM for my company. Currently, they’re 4 of them in my list(sorry I cant revealed them here). Could u please suggest to me any companies from Malaysia or this region who’re actively involved in this activities/jobs. These could help me in finding out other potential contractors since few of them already verbally communicated that they’re not interested/ cant give the commitment/ quoted for unreasonable price and others.

Btw, your log is damn informative, i found it when I was googling SBM contractor! kudos to u.. looking forward to hear from u.
p/s: I graduated from UM Engineering too!

  18. on 25th, January

    Hi Shafiq,

SapuraCrest have done it before. One time only. Sometimes in year 90′ies. SapuraCrest have been also invited to install some SBM in Sabah.

    Waalaikum Salam Fadzly,

You can talk directly to the Procurement Department together with your proposal.

There are cases whereby Offshore operation require Packaged Drinking water. It not on regular basis. Its only happen when the water maker is not working.

    FYI,

Most of offshore facilities installed with independent water maker (Processing SeaWater to Drink Water).

My Advise is; just approach the procurement officer and give them your proposal & contact. When opportunity arise, they will probably contacting you.

  24. on 11th, April

I do got a dewatering procedures for various client. Again its depend on your client & pipeline system requirement. The process is about the same for Bulk & Final dewatering. Difference maybe on numbers of PIG required to be run on each process & also difference in type of PIG.

Some require pinger to be installed, some client does not require it. so its various requirement. To develop the procedure, just follow your client specifications.

Wondered what your thoughts were on the repair time for the recent Independence Hub incident which seems to be from the steel gasket of a flex joint assembly joining the 20-inch SCR to the 24-inch gas export pipeline at 85 ft WD.

  26. on 15th, April

Repair time is related to below parameters,
    1. Is the leak detected during hydrotest or during operations?
If during operations then, the line required to be deoiling.
    2. is the pipeline flooded or not…
    3. Others operation constraints … like activities on both ends of the pipeline, other vessels activities … and the list goes on…

Thanks, much appreciated… I guess addiitonally time will depend on the timing of obtaining a DCV potentially and whether to repair/replace and the avaialbility of spare parts if replacement decison is made.

Leak detecting during operations. Flooded potentially.

    Thanks,
    Eugene

    Hello Boss,
Long time no see… Last time we met was during OGA 2007.
Thank you for the offer. Will inform you whenever i’m available to the job market.

Nice Website, very informative. I really would like to emulate your career path.

Do you have any offshore picture on J-Lay Operation? I would like to know the specific details on how the line pipe are handled and the firing line for typical J-lay Vessels e.g the J-lay tower.

  31. on 17th, April

Thank you for the visit. Yes i do have pictures & articles about J-Lay operations. I remember preparing JLay PowerPoint Presentation for SapuraCrest booth during OGA 2007. I’ll write something about JLAY operation, starting from Pipeline Initiation till Laydown.

or, if someone out there willing to share their experience, please write something and email to me or register as member & write your article from the members interface.

  33. on 21st, April

    Mechanical Pig Signaller:

Go for the simple design. Mechanical Pig Signaller (Intrusive)
    Reason :

    * Can be fitted to most existing signaller bosses, for greater flexibility
    * Can be fitted to all sizes of pipeline over 2” in diameter
    * Provided with mechanical/visual indicator, electrical indicator, or a combination of both for maximum flexibility
    * Can be removed, serviced and replaced under full line pressure with specially designed removal tools, no need to shut down the line
    * Does not use dynamic seals, for low maintenance costs and emission controls
    * Can be fitted to live pipelines using existing hot tapping systems (subject to pressure limitations), so your pipeline can continue to operate
    * Bi-directional trigger mechanism

    For more info, visit http://www.pipelineengineering.com

Wondered if you heard about the repair work for the Independence Hub project in the GoM. Is a DCV required? Do you also no if there is a service that tracks DCV movements/status?

Thanks as always for the great insights.

    Independence Hub shut-ins:

The Oil States flex joint connecting the SCR with the Independence Trail gas export line was detected with a leak on 8 April that resulted in complete shut-in of approximately 0.9 bcfd in the offshore GoM. Enterprise Product Partners operate the Trail and Anadarko operates the Huib facility. Both have indicated a “mid-May” restart.

Try apply for small oil and gas company providing support or supplying equipment/services. In your case, try to find which equipment you are really expert at. From there, study is that equipment used in offshore oil and gas industry? if yes, apply for the equipment vendor in your country. From there you can start building your contact and find a better ‘lubang’.

I do have an Installation procedure for SBM; secure with chains on piled anchor chain… But to protect the copyright of the procedure, i’m not be able to publish it here. But will write something on SBM installation in terms of Layman terms. I strongly believe your senior should have that sample procedure in hands….
